The brain is the main organ of the central nervous system and drives our language, reasoning, memory and creative capabilities. It works by collecting information from nerve cells and processing this information to perform particular actions. While the brain stem, thalamus, hypothalamus and cerebellum make up the base of the brain, the cerebrum constitutes the largest part of the brain and is divided into right and left hemispheres, each of which is associated with specific higher brain functions. Tumors in the brain can be malignant (cancerous) or benign (noncancerous), but all can cause serious symptoms such as hearing or vision loss and lead to complications like stroke.
